World Autism Awareness Day
Today is a special day! It is World Autism Awareness Day!
Having a younger brother with autism I can relate to the feeding difficulties that can occur.
My dietitian experience has also taught me that every autistic child is unique and thus needs unique nutrition interventions specific to them.
Every child (and adult) with autism experiences sensory difficulties, especially with food.
Fussy eating is very common but can reach a level of only eating a very small variety of foods. It is also common to eat or drink only certain types of textures, consistencies and even temperatures of these food and drinks.
Because of these factors, it can set them up for nutritional deficiencies and diet imbalances.
A dietitian can analyse the diet and give specific diet based interventions to overcome these challenges.
If you need any assistance, be sure to contact us below!

Super-powered Foods
What's the deal with GMO food? Good or bad?
Just a few days left before our first group education session on how to read food labels.Bottom line: modified food genes DON'T affect OUR genes in any way!
Modified foods aim to do one or more of the following:
Increase yield (to make our food cheaper)
Reduces the need for sprayed chemicals on the food
In some cases it actually increases the nutritional value of the food
Reduce water and fertilizer needed to grow the food (better for the environment)
Makes food look better (e.g. firmer, less likely to bruise or brown)
Increase the shelf life of foods without the need for preservatives
It can actually improve the taste of some food
